Butterscotch sauce is great for pouring over just about anything. Try it hot or cold, over ice cream, cake, pies, puddings, or fresh, stewed or poached fruit.

Ingredients

1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup evaporated milk
2 T. butter or margarine
2 T. light corn syrup
1/2 cup chopped nuts, raisins or coconut, optional

Directions

Combine sugar, milk, butter, and corn syrup in a medium saucepan. Place over high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently.

Reduce heat Simmer, stirring, about 6 to 8 minutes until sugar is dissolved and sauce is thickened.

Remove from heat. Cool slightly. Stir in nuts, raisins or coconut, if you like, and serve either warm or cool.

Servings

Makes 1 cup.
