Cabbage and Smoked Sausage Soup

1/2 lb. smoked sausage
1/2 cup chopped onion
3 cups chicken stock
1 cup tomato sauce
2 cups shredded cabbage
1/3 cup grated carrot
2 cloves minced garlic
1 bay leaf
Slice sausage into 1/2 inch slices; brown in a skillet over medium heat. Drain off excess fat.
Put sausage and the rest of the ingredients in a slow cooker. Cook on low heat for 3 to 4 hours.
Discard bay leaf before serving. Serve hot.
